Best snow of the week: Aspen got big pow as you can see in the photo. Monarch was a big winner with over 3 feet this past week, and most Colorado areas have gotten a bunch over the past 3 weeks. We’re finally catching up on snowfall and currently have the best conditions of the season. This February was one of the snowier ones we’ve seen and certainly a welcome relief to the dry early season.

Weather Outlook: another storm hitting today into Wednesday and then weather to clear for a few days.

Trip Tip: Many of our clients are novice or beginner skiers so just a few reminders when getting ski rentals. First, it is critical to check the information on your forms (age/height/weight/ability). Make sure it’s correct since the ski binding release tension is set is based upon that information. Next be sure to wear the socks you are skiing or boarding in to get a proper fit. Be sure those socks are NOT cotton. One pair of good quality socks will keep you warmer than 2 pair which can constrict circulation. When fitting your boots, your ski pants are made to be on the outside, not tucked inside the boots. Having your pants inside will make for a poor fit and also hurt your shins after a day of skiing. Tighten your ski boots buckles a little at a time. Once the boot is on, stand up and bend your ankle and hold it in the flexed position. If your toes barely touch or don’t touch the front of your boot, and the boot is pretty firm around your foot then it’s a good fit. Best to try on both boots since some folks have one foot bigger than the other.

Leader Tip: Most ski shops allow for rental replacement if someone drops out late and is replaced by another person as long as the replacement is using the same type of equipment (not necessarily the same sizes). If you have an arrival day rental fitting, when you pack luggage on your vehicles, it’s a real good idea to have your folks pack their ski or boarding socks separate from their luggage. In case you need to get to the ski rental fast after arrival, it makes a big difference time wise to have those socks handy and they definitely want to have them to get the best boot fit.
