Saturday Oct 12th was the first day of the 2013/14 ski season. Arapaho Basin was the big winner in the first ski area to open derby. Another snowstorm hit the mountains the last couple days, and cold weather is expected to continue. Next to open will be Loveland and that will be tomorrow Oct 17th!

Many folks ask whether early snow has any bearing on the rest of the season and after 30 years of watching ski season conditions, I can safely say it has very little impact on what happens the rest of the season.  The good news, however, is that early snow helps to start building the base as long as the weather doesn’t warm up and melts the snow on the trails that aren’t open.   The more important snowfall starts in November when the coverage is likely to stay for the rest of the year with colder temperatures thus building the base and allowing more terrain to open.

Specials for ski season continue to be available and if you still haven’t made plans please contact us asap.  There is still plenty of time to get your group or family together for a fun trip to mountains this winter!
